OICT is located in the Port of Sohar, outside the Straits of Hormuz in the Gulf of Oman, approximately 200 kilometres from Muscat and 160 kilometres from Dubai
Phase 1 civil works, which began on April 1, 2006 were completed in record time to commence operations September 1, 2006. OICT Phase 1 includes a quay length of 285 metres with a depth alongside of 16 metres and is equipped with four Post-Panamax quay cranes, eight rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGCs) and two reach-stackers supported by a fleet of 15 tractors and 33 trailers.
OICT Phase 2 is progressing rapidly and is also expected to commence operations well ahead of schedule in February 2007. When complete, OICT will have a total quay length of 520 metres and a total of yard area of 28 hectares. OICT facilities include a gatehouse complex, engineering workshop, a customs inspection area and an administrative building
The existing areas will extended to the boundaries and reconfigured for a Rubber tyred Gantry Crane (RTGC) operation to provide approximately 18.0 Hectares of yard space. Storm water gully pits, fire hydrants and lighting masts will need to be relocated to accommodate the new container stacking layoutAdditional facilities required include: –
- 560m of crane rail and rear support beam
- HV Electrical Supply
- Installation of RTGC runways
- Gatehouse and basic Buildings
- Reefer Facility
- Extensions to LV Electrical and Communications systems
- IT / Operational Systems
- Include Rail Siding if required.
Initially it is envisaged to install 2 x QC’s, 6x RTGC’s, 2x Reachstackers, 1 x ECH and miscellaneous other equipment.
